Troubleshoot the printer USB connection

Check the USB cable for damage and length, replace it if necessary, and restart your printer and computer.

  1. Turn off the printer and your computer.

  2. Disconnect the USB cable from your hub and printer, and then inspect the cable.

    • If the cable is damaged or longer than 3 m (9 ft 10 in), replace it.

    • If the cable is undamaged and shorter than 3 m (9 ft 10 in), connect the cable to a different USB port . The port should be USB 2.0 or greater.

  3. Connect the cable to your printer, and then make sure the cable is fully secured to both ports.

  4. Turn on the computer, and then wait for the computer to complete startup.

  5. Turn on the printer, and then add your printer (Mac)

Is there an antivirus software installed on your Mac?

If yes, please disable it.

Hope this helps, Keep me posted!

Hello again,

I was able to add the printer from System Preferences>printers> +add printer. I was able to see the printer and add it.

I tried printing an image: I opened the queue window and the process of the printing disappeared in a second from the queue. Nothing in the queue. Nothing printing.

On/Off button on printer blinking (NOT fast)

Please Note: HP Smart still cannot see the printer.
I tried Setting Up a New Printer.

After saying: “Finding the printer…” for more than 5 minut

it said: “USB not connected to printer” “retry”.

thanks again!

Try the below suggestions-

1)Uninstall HP Smart

  •  If installed from HP.com please delete from /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/HP Smart. Then delete HP Smart from the Applications folder and reinstall from the Mac App Store.
  •  If downloaded from the Mac App Store please remove /Users/Username/Library/Containers/HP Smart/containers.plist and then launch HP Smart from the Applications folder and go through the setup again.

2)Reinstall HP Smart from App Store.

Hope this helps!

Hello again,

I tried the previous suggestion but it did not work.
I also noticed there were two updates on my laptop, I followed your other previous suggestion with the update and deleted printer from System Preferences, then added it again.

I am able to add the printer, but when I print, there is nothing on the queue. The laptop is idle.

HP Smart still does not see the printer either.

Is this the end? Any other miracles I can try or am I doomed to buy another printer? (Please note Mercury is retrograde in a bit 😛 )

Thank you for all your help!
Hopeful for a solution

Hello Jay,
Hope you are doing great.

I cannot find out a way to figure out which printers are compatible with which computers.

So I have three questions:

1- Is HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1275 compatible with MacBook Air 2017?
2- Is there a place where to easily figure out compatibilities with different computers?
3- Is it true that Apple has done a new update which rendered all hp printers incompatible???

I really appreciate your help!
Best regards,

Hello, I bought de hp 1275 and I can't use it with my MacBook Pro. How about you?

Hello!

No it does not work.
Since my laptop has a USB C port it needs an adaptor. With an adaptor the printer is not read by my laptop.
So, I sold it and bout another model.

Have a great day!
