ENVY 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Unable to upgrade firmware wirelessly or direct with file.   When trying to do so it will say Update Successful and then reboots. Then it says update Unsuccessful. Been working with Tech Support on this issue for years and still no fix even after they have dialed into my printer.  Now I am getting emails that say the following -

Your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer is using a firmware version that will soon be obsolete. By updating it for free today, you will ensure that your printer continues operating securely and your HP Instant Ink service continues without disruption.

You must update your firmware by November 14, 2020

If you do not update your firmware by the deadline above, you will lose the ability to print with Instant Ink subscription cartridges, even if they are already in your printer. We apologize that we will have to close your HP Instant Ink account after November 14, 2020 if the firmware is not updated.

Have tried to update multiple times and still no resolution. Also, Wireless connection always drops after 3 or 4 minutes. Only way to reconnect is to reboot printer but connection continues to drop.

Hi @gstellwagen,

I'd like to help!

To assist better-

  1. What is the status of the wireless light on the printer, steady or blinking?
  2. Is your printer connected to a home or public network?
  3. Do you have a USB cable to connect between the printer and the computer?

Meanwhile, Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps!

Keep me posted!
