HP ENVY 4500 Printer

My printer is saying "The following ink cartridge must be replaced" with the symbol for my black ink. I have alady replaced it with a brand new cartridge, but the message is not going away, and I can not print anything. I have tried restarting the printer, and still the message pops up.

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post. 

 

I understand that your printer is asking you to replace the black cartridge and even after replacing it, the message is not going away, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you. 

Are you using genuine Ink on the printer?

 

Request you refer to this HP Article and clean the cartridge contacts and check if the cartridge is detected. 

If the cartridge is detected by the printer and shows the ink levels correctly, try to print or make a copy and check. 

If the issue persists, try a different cartridge or contact our phone support team to check on the service options available for the printer/cartridge.

To be more helpful with your post, you can add key information if you desire:
1. Product Name and Number (please do not post Serial Number)
• Example: HP Pavilion DV2-1209AX or HP Deskjet 3000 Printer CH393A
2. Operating System installed (if applicable)
• Example: Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit
3. Error message (if any)
• Example: ""Low disk space"" error in Windows
4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
• Examples: Upgrading your Operating System or installing a new software; or installing new hardware like a printer, modem, or router.
