Hi,
I am having a problem getting my Mac to talk to my HP printer. I was able to print but not scan so I went through the process of resetting the printer but have hit a wall. There seems to be a communication error.
Can anyone help troubleshoot this for me please. Thank you, Dan

Hi guys,
I have the same problem and followed the instructions:
- Restart your computer and then go back to System Preferences – Printers and scanners.
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)
But there was no printer to select. EEK.
Both the computer and printer are on the same network and before undergoing this i was able to print but not scan.
Can you help? thank you

This seems to be a connection issue
May I know approximately how far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
If the Router is dual bandwidth, please ensure the printer is connected to 2.4 GHZ Network and not to 5 GHZ
Do you have any Anti-virus Software installed on your Mac?
Could you check for WiFi interference and also perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results. Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by touching the wireless icon on the printer display or by printing a Network Configuration Page
Keep me posted how it goes and we will try few other steps based on the Ping Test results😊

Hi
My Mac stopped talking to my printer about two weeks ago. I still haven't been able to reconnect. The printer responds to my iPad. I have tried downloading a fresh printer driver from HP, but apparently there is no software for OS10.14.5 which is very odd.
Has HP done a software upgrade and got something wrong? The printer appears in the list of connectable bluetooth devices but the Mac won't talk to the printer.
I am a layman IT person. Have printed off the Configuration sheet and nothing seems wrong. Even tried a Ping test but got no answer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
- Do you have any Anti-virus software installed on your MAC?
- How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
- Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network.
- This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.
-
If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
- Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
The Printer can be installed on macOS 10.14 using AirPrint drivers.
Update the printer firmware:
