HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

I used the printer last week and now the Msg = Printer note found. Device expired.  I thought it was looking for a new driver.  Unable to locate driver or driver is not accepted by printer.  Printer will copy and print but not scan, which, of course, I need to do now.  I don't believe I ever had a "contract" so I am not sure what has expired?

@Brian70458, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It looks like your HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer is having an issue where it can print and copy but not scan. The message "Printer not found. Device expired." suggests either a connectivity issue or a problem with the HP scanning software. Here’s what you can try to fix the issue:

Restart Everything

Power cycle your printer: Turn it off, unplug it from power, wait 2-3 minutes, and turn it back on.

Restart your computer: This can refresh the connection.

Restart your router (if using Wi-Fi): Unplug it for 10 seconds, then reconnect.

Check Connection

If using Wi-Fi, make sure the printer and computer are on the same network.

If using USB, try a different port and cable.

Update/Reinstall HP Software & Drivers

>Go to HP Support - ENVY 4520 drivers.

>Download and install HP Smart or HP Full Feature Software.

>If you already have the HP software, uninstall it first:

Windows: Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program, find HP software, and remove it.

Mac: Open HP Easy Start and uninstall.

>Restart your computer, then reinstall the drivers.

Use Windows Built-in Scanner

>If HP software is still not working, try scanning with Windows Scan:

>Open Windows Scan (search for "Scan" in the Start menu).

>Select your printer and try scanning.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

>Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

>Run it and let it diagnose the issue.

Check HP Account & Instant Ink (if applicable)

>If you use HP Instant Ink, log in to HP Smart and ensure your printer is still connected.

>Some features (like scanning) may be limited if the printer is "expired" due to an Instant Ink issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Max3ai for your assistance but I have been told the printer EXPIRATION means that it has outlived its usefulness and it is time for a new printer.  I have ordered a new HP printer and should be receiving it very soon.
