HP ENVY 4524
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since updating my HP Pavilion laptop with Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2019 I have been having issues with my printer. It will no longer print in colour from my laptop, despite direct printer tests demonstrating that the colour cartridge works well. Strangely I am also able to print from both my iPhone and iPad in colour.

The other problem is that the scanner will not send a PDF scan to my laptop; it now insists on just sending JPGs via the scan programme.

I have utilised the HP Print and Scan Doctor to no avail. I have also searched this forum and instigated all the advice that you have provided. Unfortunately removing the software, restarting the system, reinstalling the printer drivers and restarting the system are to no avail. I have also checked that my printer updates are current. The print settings within Microsoft Office are also set up to print on A4 paper in colour. The colour and black ink cartridges are new and have been proven to work well when not communicating with my laptop!

This situation is very frustrating and has caused a great deal of inconvenience and stress.  It has discouraged me from purchasing an HP laptop and printer in the future. It is very disappointing as up until recently I was very pleased with HP.

Please advise how this 'laptop to printer' colour print and scan situation can urgently be rectified.

@Printerpatience, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue, this could be an issue with the installed drivers or driver settings. Follow the steps below-

Add a TCP/IP port-

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report from the Printer Settings or Wireless menu.
  2. Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties, click the Ports tab, and then click Add Port.
  3. Select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.
  4. Follow the instructions to add a new port using the information listed on the Network Configuration Report.
  5. Try printing.

If the issue persists, try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

  • Uninstall the printer drivers and restart the computer.
  • Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.
  • Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
