I bought my printer in December 2016 and everything was fine until I had a Windows update that made my computer go bonkers. I had to restore my Laptop to an earlier date, meaning I had to jettison my installed software. I reinstalled the HP ENVY 5546 printer software but I've not been able to link my laptop with the printer via Wifi or USB connection. There's a 'driver is unavailable' message on control panel. I have tried every possible Hp online solutions but none has worked. How do I get out of this mess, it's annoying I must say.

Hi, I tried so many different solutions, none (almost) were working. I will present two which were fine
1. do not bother with original drivers they are not working for some reason, go for universal https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/UPD/4157320/model/4157320
next go to windows settings and then to printers, click on your printer, then click on "manage" or something like that, then click on "printer properties" and a new window should open up, go to tab "advance" and then in an option "drivers" change it to "HP PCL3-A-Size printer Class Driver" then check tab "ports" if the proper one is check (with the good IP ddress). click save/ok
ps. instal your printer first with oryginal drivers - it won't work but you will have software which comes with drivers and which you might need.
2. solution no2 is much more complicated and it worked for me only once, after restarting computer or more windows updates (not sure) it stoped working again. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Driver-not-compatible-with-a-policy-enabl...
