Hi @EugeneSG1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "filter failed" error on a Mac can be frustrating. This issue typically relates to a problem with the printer driver or the communication between your Mac and the printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve it.

Update the Printer Driver:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for the HP ENVY 5549 that is compatible with macOS. Ensure you choose the correct version for your operating system.

Reinstall the Printer Driver:

  • Remove the existing printer driver:
    1. Open System Preferences on your Mac.
    2. Go to Printers & Scanners.
    3. Select the HP ENVY 5549 from the list and click the - button to remove it.
    4. Delete any associated HP printer software from your Applications folder.
  • Restart your Mac.
  • Install the newly downloaded driver and add the printer again via Printers & Scanners.

Reset the Printing System:

  • This can help resolve any issues with the printer settings:
    1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
    3. Confirm the reset and then add your printer again.

Check for macOS Updates:

  • Ensure that your Mac is running the latest version of macOS. Sometimes, a system update can resolve compatibility issues.

Check Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer has the latest firmware update. Check the HP website or the printer's settings menu.

Use AirPrint:

  • If the issue persists, try using AirPrint:
    1. Ensure the printer and your Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
    2. In Printers & Scanners, click the + button to add a new printer.
    3. Select your HP ENVY 5549 from the list and see if it offers AirPrint as an option.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
