Hi @Auchterdeen,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that you are unable to connect your HP e-All-in-One Printer to your computer.
This issue could occur if the drivers are not installed properly.
Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:
Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:
Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.
Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:
1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing any one of the following:
(a). Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.
(b) From the Start menu or the Start screen and open Devices and Printers. Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window. Click on the Drivers tab.
2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.
3. Click the Remove button.
3. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.
Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers
Let me know how this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Thanks for the response. This is the procedure which I had tried about 3 times and each time the driver installed failed to work.
My client has now contacted HP support directly and (after much difficulty!) the printer is now installed.
However, I do not know what the problem was and am concerned that if this should recurr with other clients I will be unable to solve it again. I have been recommending HP printers a lot recently as usually they are so easy to install so this has been a very disappointing incident.

Hi @Auchterdeen,
Thank you for your reply, I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP.
They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number.
Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact.
Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum

@Rainbow23 - I am having the same issue and have tried all the installing/reinstalling of drivers to no avail.
I can print via USB connection but not wirelessly from my Windows 10 laptop. I would also appreciate contact to resolve this.
Thanks

I followed all of these directions, directions in 4 other posts, used the garbage "doctor" program you provide and still, still my windows 10 rig can't connect to my Envy 4520 over a great network or via direct USB. I call tech support and get hammered with questions before they ask me for money to solve my problem. I am so disappointed in your company right now that I don't even have the words for it. All I did was reset windows and now I am 3 hours in wasting time on this problem.

I have tried at least twice to carry out all the processes in this thread - all without success. It's indicated above that somebody was successful in having it fixed but only by direct contact with HP support. As this appears to be a problem several people are having, please publish the process that works.
Thanks

HP Support on the website is garbage. They just say the same line verbatum and think everyone having problems is a complete and total moron that can't follow directions. Calling support is worthless as well because all they will do is ask you for money to "fix" your problem. I have the same problem with my HP Laptop connecting to an HP Printer...it's like the company doesn't care that you support them and want to make life super difficult on you and bleed more money out. I keep having the same problem as well. An IT friend told me I just need to restore my laptop and stop the automatic windows updates because the printer works fine right after a system restore but a few days later it quits communicating with my laptop, hoping this finally works because I need to print things from the laptop that I cannot print from my Galaxy S7 Edge.

Wasted 2 Hours doing the complete HP Printer Install Troubleshooter on my mother's HP Envy 5640 just for it to not work (Full uninstall, clean up with HP printer cleanup utility, turned off startup programs, disabled firewall, checked router, etc).. so then I ended up here from Google, even tried the suggestions here to no avail as well...
Then for fun I extracted the files from install .exe with 7zip and tried to manually install the printers driver through Device Manager... it too failed, but with this error:
"The Printer drivers not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers"
Hmmmmmmm...
Of course I then googled that error and ended up at this post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Driver-not-compatible-with-a-policy-enabl... where my problem was solved after following the instructions. Hopefully anyone else with an HP Envy 5640 that just won't print wirelessly or via usb on Windows 10 after the fall creators update will see this when they end up at this post like I did. Here's the run-down from that post:
Solution:
- Uninstall the HP Software from your PC.
- Backup your registry prior making any registry changes:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03485724 - Update your registry using the Reg file below (that will change some printer related policies for your PC):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/avbv56zdgwv7600/kernel.reg?dl=1 - Right click the Start menu and select Run.
- Type Services.msc and press OK.
- Locate and stop the Print Spooler service
Browse to c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers
Rename W32X86 to W32x86.old
Rename x64 to x64.old
Note: if any of these folders fails to delete reboot your PC and then repeat the steps starting from Step 4...- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall the HP Software and check for any difference
Thanks ShlomiL!
In case that file is removed from Dropbox, it was called kernel.reg and this was it's contents:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers] "KMPrintersAreBlocked"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers\PointAndPrint] "Restricted"=dword:00000001 "TrustedServers"=dword:00000000 "ServerList"="" "InForest"=dword:00000000 "NoWarningNoElevationOnInstall"=dword:00000001 "UpdatePromptSettings"=dword:00000002 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers\PointAndPrint] "Restricted"=dword:00000001 "TrustedServers"=dword:00000000 "ServerList"="" "InForest"=dword:00000000 "NoWarningNoElevationOnInstall"=dword:00000001 "UpdatePromptSettings"=dword:00000002

Hi JSnowCreations,
I signed up quite simply to say that you Sir are a lengend of the highest order!
I followed your instructions and now everything works as it should. Why no one else has done and or figured this out I have no idea.
But thank you so much!!

Hi, I tried so many different solutions, none (almost) were working. I will present two which were fine
1. do not bother with original drivers they are not working for some reason, go for universal https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/UPD/4157320/model/4157320
next go to windows settings and then to printers, click on your printer, then click on "manage" or something like that, then click on "printer properties" and a new window should open up, go to tab "advance" and then in an option "drivers" change it to "HP PCL3-A-Size printer Class Driver" then check tab "ports" if the proper one is check (with the good IP ddress). click save/ok
ps. instal your printer first with oryginal drivers - it won't work but you will have software which comes with drivers and which you might need.
2. solution no2 is much more complicated and it worked for me only once, after restarting computer or more windows updates (not sure) it stoped working again. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Driver-not-compatible-with-a-policy-enabl...
