Hi @ESP702-2024,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing two distinct issues with your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-In-One Printer on your MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey 12.7.1:
- Printing documents in black and white instead of color.
- Unable to scan from the printer to your computer.
Problem 1: Printing in Black and White
Possible Causes:
- The printer settings are set to print in grayscale.
- Driver or software issues.
- Application-specific settings overriding printer settings.
Solutions:
Check Printer Settings:
- Open the document you want to print.
- Go to File > Print.
- In the print dialog, look for a dropdown menu (usually labeled as "Copies & Pages" or the name of the application).
- Select Printer Features or Quality & Media.
- Ensure that the Color or Color Mode is set to Color and not Black & White or Grayscale.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Install the updated drivers and restart your MacBook Pro.
Reset Printing System:
- Open System Preferences and select Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of devices on the left side and select Reset printing system.
- Add your printer again and try printing.
Check Application Settings:
- Some applications have their own print settings that might override the printer settings.
- Make sure the application you're printing from is set to print in color.

Problem 2: Scanning from Printer to Computer
Possible Causes:
- Incorrect scanner setup.
- Software issues or missing drivers.
- Network issues prevent communication between the printer and the MacBook Pro.
Solutions:
Check Scanner Setup:
- Open the HP Smart app on your MacBook Pro.
- Ensure that the printer is correctly set up and connected.
- Go to the Scan tab and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the scanner.
Install the HP Easy Start Software:
- Download and install the HP Easy Start software from the HP Support website.
- This software will guide you through the setup process, including setting up the scanner.
Update the HP Smart App:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed from the App Store.
Check Network Connection:
- Ensure that both your printer and MacBook Pro are connected to the same WiFi network.
- Restart your router and try reconnecting the printer to the network.
Reset the Scanner:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Try scanning again.

It helped resetting the printer. Thank you.
Setting the HP ENVY INSPIRE 7955e as the default printer I did and now when I print, interestingly,
I have to verify in preview print that it is the HP ENVY INSPIRE 7955e is the default printer going to be used. I restarted my laptop and not sure if that fixed or not but I observe which printer is being used in preview before printing now.
I noticed that the red color is not really red but more of a burnt umber...
All software is up to date on printer and macbook pro... guess I will look at print head nozzles.. now
Again thanks for the resetting -- went into system pref. clicked on printers... below I right clicked and menu to reset clicked. now see color in preview and printing also.
