I have just bought a new laptop but now my printer doesn't work. It appears to be something with its set up. Connection to internet is fine. Ink and paper levels are fine. Laptop Settings says 'Attention Required'

Hi @JennyGolf,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer's connectivity!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

  1. Check Printer Connection:

    • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your laptop.
    • If using a USB connection, check the cables and try reconnecting.
    • If connected via Wi-Fi, ensure both your laptop and printer are on the same network.
  2. Restart Devices:

    • Turn off both the printer and the laptop. Wait for about 30 seconds.
    • Power them back on and check if the issue persists.
  3. Update Printer Drivers:

    • Windows 11 might require updated drivers for compatibility.
    • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your HP ENVY 5546 printer.
  4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

    • You can download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility to automatically diagnose and fix printing issues.
    • This tool can help detect software and connectivity issues.
  5. Check Printer Settings:

    • Access the printer settings on your laptop and ensure your printer is set as the default printer.
    • Check for any pending printing jobs and clear the print queue.
  6. Reinstall HP Printer Software:

    • Uninstall the existing printer software and drivers through the Windows control panel.
    • Reinstall the software using the HP Easy Start app or the full feature software available on the HP website.
  7. Verify Windows Updates:

    • Ensure your Windows 11 operating system is up-to-date as some updates can affect peripheral compatibility.

I hope this helps.

The only thing that worked for me was changing the port on the printer properties after I found a fix on a you tube video.

Right click on printer and select printer properties, click on ports, select add port, select the TCP/IP port, configure port, and enter IP address from the printer which you can get from the wireless menu on printer screen.  It shouldn't revert back but if it does just reselect the TCP/IP port.  Mine printed and I've had no problem since 😊was going to throw it out the window but that you tube video saved it and me!!
