We understand that HP Easy Scan version 2.0.0 is crashing immediately after launch on your MacBook Air (M1, 2020) after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.4.1. We recognize how frustrating this can be, especially when your scanning needs are interrupted.

The app crashes with:

• EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT) — indicating an abort was triggered due to an unhandled exception.
• The crash occurs while loading the UI: -[NSViewController view], suggesting something in the view (possibly a legacy or unsupported UI component) is incompatible with macOS 15.4.1.

Current Workarounds and Fixes:

1. Confirm HP Easy Scan Compatibility

As of this time, HP Easy Scan 2.0.0 is not officially supported on macOS Sequoia (15.x). Compatibility issues like these can arise after major macOS updates when legacy applications haven't yet been updated for newer APIs or UI frameworks.

2. Use Image Capture (Built-In macOS App)

In the meantime, you can use Apple’s built-in Image Capture app, which supports most HP scanners and multifunction devices:

• Open Image Capture from /Applications.
• Select your HP printer in the left sidebar.
• Adjust scan settings and click Scan.

This offers a reliable workaround until a compatible version of HP Easy Scan is released.

3. Check for HP Smart App Support

The HP Smart app is our newer platform and is fully supported on macOS 13+ and optimized for Apple Silicon:

• Download HP Smart from the HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support.
• Add your printer/scanner and test scanning functionality.

Note: Some advanced scan settings available in Easy Scan may not be present in HP Smart.

thanks a lot for the detailed reply to my first post here.

Currently, I am using the Scan-Feature from the Application "HP Smart" (v. 18.6.1) or Apples Preview as a workaround.

So I am still able to use the scanner, but I still miss the Easy Scan App, as it is a little more convenient.

To be honest, I thought that the Software Development Dept at HP is testing the compatibility with new OS long before the new OS is released to be prepared for the moment these updates are installed widely.

I am using HP printers and scanners since 1991, so I can tell that these issues were handled a bit better in the past and - I am waiting for a macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 compatible version of "Easy Scan"...

At this time, HP Easy Scan may not function as expected on newer macOS versions due to changes in Apple's security and system frameworks.
 

We recommend using the HP Smart app or Apple’s built-in Preview application as temporary alternatives, both of which support core scanning functionality for most HP devices.
