It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating issue with HP Easy Scan crashing on your Mac when scanning documents with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e. Let’s go through some steps to try to resolve this issue, especially with macOS Monterey or a similar version.
1. Update HP Easy Scan
- First, make sure that you're running the latest version of HP Easy Scan. Updates can often fix bugs and compatibility issues with newer macOS versions.
- Go to the Mac App Store and search for HP Easy Scan.
- If an update is available, click Update.
2. Check for macOS Updates
- Ensure that macOS Monterey is fully updated, as Apple frequently releases patches that can address compatibility problems with apps like HP Easy Scan.
- Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
- If updates are available, install them and restart your computer.
3. Uninstall and Reinstall HP Easy Scan
- If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling HP Easy Scan.
- Go to the Applications folder and find HP Easy Scan.
- Drag it to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash to complete the uninstallation.
- Download the latest version of HP Easy Scan from the Mac App Store or from HP’s official website.
4. Reset the Printer and Reconnect
- Sometimes, the issue can be with the printer connection. Reset the printer and reconnect it to your Mac:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it for a few seconds.
- Reconnect and turn the printer back on.
- On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and remove the printer.
- Re-add the printer and make sure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
5. Check Printer Firmware
- Make sure that the firmware on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e is up to date. Firmware updates can improve compatibility with macOS.
- Go to HP Support and search for your printer model.
- Follow the instructions to check if any firmware updates are available for your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I have the same issue and have tried all the fixes to no avail. I have two Mac, both running Sequoia, with HP MFP479 multifunction scanner/printers. Both have same issue and non of these fixes are working. Both worked fine when purchased so it is something related o updates but not Mac OS or connection. IN fact I redownloaded and installed HP Easy scan today so I know current HP easy is up to date

I had the same frustrating problem when changing from an iMac 27inch to the new Apple Mac mini M4 with MacOS Sequoia 15.3.2. The Apple OS did recognize the printer (HP Laserjet pro 400 color MFP M475dw) on the Mac mini and printing worked but using HP easy scan the program stopped halfway indicating there was a problem. Strangely on my Apple MacBook pro M1 with the same MacOS Sequoia, HP easy scan did work. Normally I use the MacBook in another location with another HP printer, HP Deskjet 3830 series. As a final try I installed the software for the HP Deskjet 3830 series on my new Mac mini, namely HP Utility version 5.51.0 (2117) and HP Easy Scan version 2.0.0 (231115). Both programs immediately recognized the HP Laserjet pro 400 color MFP M475dw and HP Easy Scan did work. To install both HP programs I used for installing the HP Deskjet 3830 series. Good luck to everybody with this nasty and frustrating issue.
