I've been having trouble printing to my LaserJet 1200 most of the time since I moved to an M1 Mac Mini with Bug Sur. I've tried generic PCL, generic PS, and some Mac-included HP driver, but all exhibit odd issues if they print at all. This morning, I found this article, and it links to this Supported HP Printers List, which does, in fact, list the LaserJet 1200 as a supported printer. Whenever I run the HP Easy Start app (which is what he article says to do for Big Sur), it finds the printer as "HP LaserJet 1200 [USB]" (which is correct), and allows me to select it for install. However, instead of installing, I get "We were not able to automatically locate any software options for this product. Please go to the HP Website and search for product solutions there." That is what I did first, and it doesn't list macos 11.x at all to begin with (or even any other version higher than 10.5).
Since I had already removed the partially functional printer configuration again at this point, I went ahead and tried installing the driver package from the Catalina section of the same article. It seemed to install, and then the printer showed up automatically with a picture that matches the printer. The version also matches the version listed on the supported list. I haven't tried to print yet, but I'm wondering if the linked article is wrong/incomplete or if I am likely to run into issues due to compatibility between versions (or if this particular printer and several others on that page with the same version listed may have had support end between Catalina and Big Sur).
FWIW, I'm currently on Big Sur 11.6, and I think the printer may have worked OK with one of the Mac driver options when I first got the Mac, at which point I may have already been on Big Sur, but was certainly on an earlier version.
