I want to use this printer on two desktops - one through USB and one over WiFi. When trying to install this on a Windows 7 desktop I can't get the Add Printers to assign this correctly and the test page fails. I've tried using HP Smart, and when it gets into Easy Start it won't accept the PIN that is printed on the label, which is the same as the one printed on the printer status report. I've restarted the printer and the desktop a couple of times. Is there a way to reset the PIN?
When I unplug and then plug in the USB cable, it wants to assign the printer as a Portable Media Player with no printer queue or any other properties associated with a printer.

Hi @APCalifornia.,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Install the Printer Driver:
- Download the latest drivers for Windows 7 from the HP Support website specific to your printer model.
- Connect the printer to the desktop using a USB cable.
- Follow installation instructions provided by the driver setup.
Set as Default Printer:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Find your HP Smart Tank 7602 in the list, right-click, and select Set as default printer.
Print a Test Page:
- After installation, print a test page to check connectivity.
Connecting via WiFi
Ensure WiFi Network Configuration:
- On the printer, ensure that it is connected to the same WiFi network that you want to use for the second desktop.
- Use the printer's control panel to access the WiFi settings.
Install Using HP Smart App:
- Ensure the desktop intended for WiFi connection has the HP Smart app installed.
- Open HP Smart, tap Add Printer, select your HP Smart Tank 7602.
- Follow prompts for connecting via WiFi.
Resolve PIN Issues:
- If the PIN isn't working:
- Ensure it's entered exactly as printed (including case sensitivity).
- Verify that the printer status report matches the label.
- If issues persist, it might be useful to print a new pin using the Reset PIN option from the printer menu.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Sometimes updating the firmware may resolve connectivity and PIN issues. Check for firmware updates via HP Smart or the official website.
Firewall and Security Settings:
- Ensure that your desktop’s firewall or security settings aren’t blocking the printer’s connectivity.
Test Printing:
- After setup, attempt printing a test page to ensure successful configuration.
I hope this helps.
