HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

My Envy 4520 keeps entering a SCANNING mode every few minutes. It has the latest firmware update and I have both turned it on and off and unplugged it to no effect. I have printed things in between this issue, but there are no scanning requests in my Q.

Hi @Gargas1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 4520 is repeatedly entering scanning mode without any requests, here are several steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

Check for Stuck Buttons: Make sure that no buttons on the printer are stuck, particularly the "Scan" button. Sometimes, a stuck button can cause the printer to continuously enter scan mode.

Clear the Print Queue: Although you mentioned there are no scan requests in your queue, double-check to ensure there are no hidden jobs or tasks that might be causing this issue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • If you have installed any third-party software that interacts with the printer, try uninstalling it to see if that resolves the issue.
  • Ensure your HP Smart app or any other printing/scanning software is up to date.

Factory Reset:

  • If the issue persists, you may want to consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This will reset all settings to default, which may resolve any underlying issues.
  • To do this, go to the printer's settings menu on the control panel, find the "Setup" or "Settings" option, and look for "Restore Factory Defaults."

Firmware Update: Even though you mentioned having the latest firmware, it can be helpful to double-check on the HP website or through the HP Smart app for any updates or patches that may not have installed correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
