I have a HP Envy 4522 printer, and whenever I attempt to print the error message: Wait until the printer finishes before you push in the output tray extender.  This problem is consistent, and I have been unable to find a solution to it. If I could get some help that would be much appreciated.

@TaintedScott,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Let's start off by updating the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website, using this link. Alternatively you can also try to update the printer firmware directly from the printer control panel.

For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue persists, I would start by doing a power reset on the printer.

Once the power reset is finished, try printing a report by using the printer's control panel.

1. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the paper tray.

2. From the printer control panel, touch Tools.

3. Touch Print Quality Report.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

This solution has not solved my problem. The same error is still showing and when I print off a report it does not find an issue. It has the newest firmware, and the power reset had no effect. I am hoping that there could be a cheap fix for this issue but if not then I will just get a new printer, as currentky this HP Envy 4522 is useless to me. Thankyou for your support.

Let's perform an advanced reset on the printer. Doing this will set the printer back to the factory settings.

I have sent you a private message with the steps to perform an advanced reset on the printer. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it. Click here for more details on how to access the private messages on HP Support Community.
