Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am attempting to get a proper driver installed for my Envy 5540 on my Windows 10 v1903 PC. The ones on the 5540's download page did not work properly, not giving me the option to use the included duplex functionality or even print in color, only black.

So, I then uninstalled those, and attempted to follow the instructions here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 to use the default built-in driver in Windows 10. Unfortunately, it also exhibits the same issues of not seeing the duplex and no color.

Following this, I attempted to do it manually, and if I use the "Windows Update" button in the area where it asks you to choose a driver, it will then show a "HP Envy 5540 Series" driver, and that one will show the duplex unit and color. HOWEVER, it will be unable to print. I suspect that it's due to using LPT1 for the printer port, but the instructions don't specify what to use for a network printer, only USB. Using the IP for this also did not work for the port. When automatically installed, it uses a WSD port, which I assume it creates itself.

Attempting to find the printer by IP and Autodetect, will result in Windows re-installing the initial broken driver.

Why is it so difficult to get a working printer driver, you know, something that should be basic functionality?
