HP Envy 6055e Scanning issues

Hello I have a user that is using a HP Envy 6055e. Our company is really strict with what we can install. I was able to download the driver for the printer but it did not install the scan software. I tried installing the HP Universal Scan application, but it's not working. 

1) Is there a way to tell what printers will work with HP Universal Scan Application? I have a few older printers that I need to see about getting working as well. 

2) I think this model may need to use the HP Smart Scan but our company will not let us install apps from the MS App Store. Is there a way to download the HP smart scan without going through the MS App Store?

1. HP Universal Scan Application Compatibility

The HP Universal Scan application is designed to work with certain HP printers, but not all models support it. To check compatibility:

• Visit HP’s official driver and software page for your printer model.
• Look for scan software options—if HP Universal Scan isn’t listed, it likely isn’t supported.
• Some older printers may require HP Scan and Capture, but this app has been retired.

 

2. Downloading HP Smart Scan Without the Microsoft Store

Since your company restricts Microsoft Store installations, you can try downloading HP Smart Scan directly:

• Go to HP’s official support page for the HP Envy 6055e.
• Scroll down to Software & Drivers and look for a full feature driver package that includes scanning software.
• If HP Smart Scan isn’t available, try using Windows Fax and Scan or Windows Scan, which are built into Windows 11.

If none of these options work, you may need to request an IT exception to install HP Smart Scan on your printer.
