Please help - I am at my wit's end and am contemplating changing to a non-HP printer.
I have a HP Envy 6400 printer. I don't use it often, and every time I go to use it, I have problems with the status saying it is "offline", or all the control panel lights will be on (solid, not flashing).
I want to be able to print from either my Mac (personal) or Windows (work) laptops, or my phone. But I keep getting this problem.
YES, I have done all the unplugging, and restarts, cable pulls, etc.
PLEASE HELP ME. This is shocking quality.

Hi @aarondavidspeer,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration, and I'm here to help. Let's troubleshoot your HP Envy 6400 printer step by step.
- Check Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If you're using a USB cable, make sure it's securely plugged into both the printer and your computer. If you're using Wi-Fi, ensure that the printer is connected to the correct network and that your computer is also connected to the same network.
- Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off both your printer and your computer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn them back on.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings menu or on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can fix bugs and improve compatibility.
- Check Printer Settings: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings and ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled and that it's connected to the correct network. Also, make sure that the printer is set to online mode and not in any sort of offline or sleep mode.
- Driver Update: Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can download the drivers from the HP website for both your Mac and Windows laptops.
- Printer Queue: Sometimes, print jobs can get stuck in the printer queue, causing the printer to go offline. Open the print queue on your computer and cancel any pending print jobs. Then try printing again.
- Reset Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your printer to its factory settings. This will erase all custom settings, so make sure to note them down before proceeding.
I hope one of these steps resolves your printer issue.
Take care and have a good day.
