HP ENVY 6400e printer stuck on validating print cartridges after inserting two sets of HP approved cartridges.

i have tried shutting it down and restarting (removing power cable from back of printer and wall plug & pushing off and on button for 20 seconds to turn printer completely off.

i have tried cleaning pins on cartridges and printer with distilled water.

i have tried 2 different sets of print cartridges in case one of them was defective.

still validating

I understand your HP ENVY 6400e printer is stuck on validating print cartridges despite trying different sets of cartridges and cleaning the pins, there are a few more troubleshooting steps you can follow:

1. Check for Firmware Updates

Ensure your printer has the latest firmware. Firmware updates can resolve various issues, including problems with cartridge validation.

  • Download and Install Firmware:
    1. Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
    2. Enter your printer model (HP ENVY 6400e).
    3. Download and install any available firmware updates.

2. Reset the Printer

A full reset might help clear any internal errors.

  1. Perform a Full Reset:
    • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Wait for 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect it to the back of the printer.
    • Turn on the printer if it does not turn on automatically.

3. Check Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that the cartridges you are using are fully compatible with your printer model.

  • Compatible Cartridges:
    • HP 67 Black Original Ink Cartridge
    • HP 67 Tri-color Original Ink Cartridge
    • HP 67XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge
    • HP 67XL High Yield Tri-color Original Ink Cartridge

4. Inspect the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

Even if you've cleaned the contacts, ensure there is no damage.

  1. Inspect Contacts:
    • Look for any visible damage or debris on the cartridge contacts and the printer’s cartridge holder.
    • Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the contacts again.

5. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP provides a tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can diagnose and resolve many printing and scanning problems.

  • Download and Run the Tool:
    1. Visit the HP Print and Scan Doctor page.
    2. Download and run the tool.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix issues.

6. Reinstall Printer Drivers

Sometimes, reinstalling the printer drivers can resolve validation issues.

  1. Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your HP printer and select Remove device.
    • Download the latest drivers from the HP website and install them.
