Hello, just purchased a new HP Envy 6455E printer to replace an older HP printer. The printer works perfectly but has a constant high pitched noise/squeak regardless of being used. Not sure if it’s a hardware issue but the only fix to the noise is to unplug it which is not an option for our household. It’s an issue because it is our study room  which is extremely annoying when trying to focus. Any help is welcome!

Hi @AlanHayn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I want to help!

This looks like a hardware issue.

However, A constant high-pitched whining noise coming from your HP Envy 6455e printer can be quite annoying and potentially indicative of a problem. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue.

  • Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no foreign objects, debris, or paper jams inside the printer. Sometimes, these can cause unusual noises.
  • Restart the Printer: Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and power it on again. This can sometimes resolve minor issues.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Check if there are any firmware or driver updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating these can sometimes resolve compatibility issues or bugs causing strange noises.
  • Inspect Moving Parts: Open the printer's cover (following the manufacturer's instructions) and visually inspect the internal components, especially the print carriage. Ensure there are no loose parts or visible damage.
  • Clean the Printer: Dust and dirt can accumulate inside the printer over time and cause strange noises. Use compressed air or a soft brush to carefully clean the interior of the printer.
  • Check Paper Quality: Poor-quality or damaged paper can sometimes cause unusual noises during printing. Ensure you're using high-quality, undamaged paper.
  • Adjust Print Settings: Sometimes, the printer settings can be a factor. Try adjusting the print quality settings to see if it affects the noise. Lower-quality settings may produce less noise.

If the above steps do not fix the issue, you may have to contact HP internal support for hardware issues.

I have tried all of the suggestions made and the noise still remains. Is there anything else I can do about the squeak?
