Hello, as the title says my printer is stuck at the loading screen and it only gets to the first dot. I have followed every reset recommendation unplugging it completely for 10 minutes while hitting the power button and then plugging it directly into the wall outlet. Nothing has worked, I think it needs to be reset to factory settings but the screen doesn't do anything and neither do the buttons. Is there another way to reset it?

I've seen other posts that were closed where an HP employee sent private messages with instructions to reset for the same problem. If anyone can help that would be great.

Hi @mikaila23,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy Photo 7155 is stuck on the loading screen at the first dot, and normal resets haven’t helped. Let’s go through a few steps to attempt a deeper reset that can often revive the printer when the control panel is unresponsive.

Power reset with extended drain

Unplug the printer from the wall completely.

Press and hold the power button for 30–60 seconds to discharge any residual power.

Leave the printer unplugged for at least 15 minutes, then plug it back into a direct wall outlet (avoid power strips).

Try turning it on again.

Manual factory reset (via buttons)

With the printer off, press and hold the Cancel button (X) and the Wireless button simultaneously.

While holding them, press the Power button.

Keep holding all three buttons for 10–15 seconds until any lights blink or the screen changes.

Release and see if the printer attempts to restart.

Disconnect cartridges and paper

Remove all ink cartridges and any paper in the trays.

Power the printer on with no cartridges or paper to see if it completes the boot sequence.

Sometimes a bad cartridge or jam will freeze the printer on startup.

Check for firmware recovery via USB

On some HP printers, you can force a firmware recovery using a computer.

Connect the printer to your computer via USB, then open HP Smart or HP Firmware Update.

Follow the prompts to reinstall firmware. (This only works if the printer at least partially initializes via USB.)

Inspect power and connections

Ensure the wall outlet is stable (try a different outlet).

Avoid USB hubs or extension cords, as inconsistent power can stall startup.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your response, however, these steps didn't work, PLUS, I do not have the Cancel button (X) and the Wireless button on my printer.

HI @mikaila23,

Thank you for the response.

Let’s go through a few deeper checks that apply specifically to this model.

Confirm the correct button layout for the Envy Photo 7155
This model does not have a physical Cancel (X) or Wireless button.
All controls are capacitive and part of the touchscreen, so button-based factory resets are not available when the screen does not load.

Perform a long hard reset (extended power isolation)
Unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet.
Leave the printer completely disconnected for at least 30 minutes to fully drain internal capacitors, then reconnect directly to a wall outlet and try powering it on.

Remove cartridges and force a cold start
With the printer powered off and unplugged, open the cartridge access door.
Remove all ink cartridges, close the door, reconnect power, and turn the printer on without cartridges installed to check whether it progresses past the first dot.

Check for startup lock caused by the scanner assembly
Lift the scanner lid and gently move it up and down once to ensure it is not mechanically stuck.
A stalled scanner carriage can prevent the printer from completing its boot sequence.

Attempt firmware recovery via USB (only if detected)
Connect the printer directly to a computer using a USB cable.
Power on the printer and check whether the computer detects a USB device at all; if it does not enumerate, firmware recovery is not possible.

Test with a different power source
Plug the printer into a different wall outlet in another room.
Avoid extension cords or surge protectors, as unstable power can prevent firmware initialization.

I hope this helps.
