Microsoft Windows 11

Printer has worked well for 4 years. Recently has been unable to start up--stuck on the load screen. Have tried resetting it multiple times by prolonged disconnection from power and pressing and holding the power button. Would like specific instructions for a hard reset.

Hi @aprout,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Photo 7855 printer is stuck on the loading screen and not starting up properly, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a minute. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This simple step can often resolve minor glitches.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams inside the printer that might be causing it to get stuck during startup.
  • Remove USB/Network Cables: If your printer is connected to a computer or network, disconnect the USB or network cables and try starting the printer without them. Sometimes, a faulty connection can cause issues.
  • Reset to Factory Defaults: Many printers have a reset option that can be accessed through the settings or by pressing a combination of buttons on the control panel. Check your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  • Update Firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause startup issues. Visit the official HP website and search for the latest firmware update for your printer model. Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: A hard reset can help to clear any temporary glitches. To perform a hard reset, unplug the printer from the power source and from any connected devices. Then, press and hold the power button for about 20-30 seconds. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure that there are no foreign objects, such as bits of paper or debris, obstructing the printer's moving parts. Carefully check the paper feed area and any accessible internal components.
  • Check Ink Cartridges: If your printer's ink cartridges are improperly installed or empty, it might not start up correctly. Make sure the cartridges are properly seated and have enough ink.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried all of the above. The printer is still stuck on the load screen.

I have same problem. Nothing works. Printer startup does not get past first dot.

I called HP. They said that they expected the printer to stop working after 2-3 years. Needless to say I will not be purchasing another printer from a company that makes products designed to stop working every few years.

Aprout, thank you for the response. Since the printer does not go past the first progress dot, I cannot update the firmware, #5 bullet below. I have already tried, without success, bullets #1, #2, #4,#6, #7, and #8. I have no USB/network cable attached, #3. Unfortunately, I purchased brand new printer cartridges to try #8 bullet. Any other suggestions? Will HP replace my printer if I send it back? My printer is in excellent shape and looks brand new. I have only had HP printers and this is the only one (7855) that has not lasted at least 8 years. I support HP but find it difficult to continue if HP does not support their product that fails due to soft.firmware.

They basically told me I was out of luck. I threw it away and switched to Epson. Frustrating experience overall.
