This problem persists and is becoming a real headache. Sometimes it works fine for days and other times it happens non-stop.  I've tries all the normal things like switching everything off, re-adding the printer and reseting the print system. I can't be the wi-fi, as the router is only in the next room. If a solution isn't forthcoming soon,  I will have to abandon HP altogether.

Hi @Baldeagle611,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP Envy 6000 series printer keeps going offline, especially after trying all the usual fixes. This issue is often related to network stability, printer sleep settings, or IP address conflicts, even if the router is nearby.

Step 1: Update Printer Firmware

Step 2: Assign a Static IP

Dynamic IP changes can cause printers to go offline.

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer.
  • Note the IP address.
  • In your router settings, assign this IP as static for the printer.
  • Alternatively, set it manually via the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)
    • Enter the printer IP in your browser → Network → IPv4 → Manual IP.

Step 3: Disable Printer Sleep Mode

  • In EWS → Settings → Power Management, set Sleep Mode to a longer duration or disable it temporarily.

Step 4: Use HP app Advanced Settings

  • Ensure Wi-Fi Direct is OFF if you’re using regular Wi-Fi.
  • Enable Keep Wi-Fi On During Sleep.

Step 5: Check Firewall & Security Software

Sometimes, Windows or macOS firewall blocks printer communication.

  • Add HP Smart and printer IP to allowed apps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks Vikram, but you're going to have to simplify this a bit. I got as far as noting the IP adress, then

  • In your router settings, assign this IP as static for the printer.
I've no idea how to do this.
  • Alternatively, set it manually via the printer’sEmbedded Web Server (EWS):
    Or this.
  • Ensure Wi-Fi Direct is OFF if you’re using regular Wi-Fi.
If there's a choice, what is the correct one recommended for Mac OS?

Thanks in advance.
