Hi,

First excuse my poor english. Here is my problem :

I have an HP Envy6100e printer connected to my windows11 PC via WIFI 5Ghz. I cannot print anything if the printer selection is set to "HP Envy6100e" but it works fine if the printer selection is set to "HP Smart Printing".

I have another Windows 11 PC connected to the same network and printing is possible via the "HP Envy6100e" selection.

Can someone help me to understand the problem and tell me the difference between the "HP Envy6100e" and HP Smart printers?

Many Thanks

Hi @Mousse31

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details clearly. Let’s break this down so you understand the difference and then walk through steps to resolve the issue.

Understanding the Printer Options

  • When you see HP Envy6100e listed, that is the direct printer driver installed on your Windows 11 PC. It communicates with the printer using the standard Windows print system.
  • When you see HP Smart Printing (now referred to as HP App Printing), that is the cloud-based printing option. It routes print jobs through the HP App, which can sometimes bypass local driver issues and use HP’s cloud services to deliver the print job.

That explains why one PC prints fine using the direct driver, while the other only works through the HP App option.

Steps to Resolve the Issue on the PC where “HP Envy6100e” does not print

  1. Check Printer Status in Windows
    • Open SettingsDevicesPrinters & scanners.
    • Select HP Envy6100e.
    • Ensure it is set as the default printer.

  2. Run Diagnose & Fix from HP App
    • Open the HP App on your PC.
    • Go to Printer Settings.
    • Use the Diagnose & Fix tool to automatically check connectivity and driver issues.

  3. Update the Printer Driver
    • In Printers & scanners, remove the HP Envy6100e printer.
    • Re-add it by selecting Add a printer or scanner.
    • Allow Windows to detect and install the latest driver.

  4. Verify Network Connection
    • Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi band (5 GHz in your case).
    • Restart both the printer and router, then reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi.

  5. Test Printing
    • Try printing a test page from Printer Properties.
    • If successful, the direct driver should now work just like on your other PC.

Summary
The difference is that one option uses the local driver (HP Envy6100e) and the other uses the HP App’s cloud printing. The issue is likely with the driver setup on the PC where direct printing fails. Following the steps above should align both PCs to work consistently with the direct printer driver.
