HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a refurbished HP 8710 all in one printer/scanner.  I have been trying to connect it to HP Ink.  The printer prints just fine, test pages and info from HP Ink.  However, it will not print from my computer.  I've added drivers, cancelled my subscription to HP Ink and restarted it, adding the new printer, chatted with a virtual assistant for over 2 hours.  She took control of my computer and worked with me and somehow I disconnected the whole thing, but we kept doing the same things and nothing worked.  Someone out there must know how to fix the disabled link.  HELP!

Hi @MEEMEE50,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can hear the frustration in your words, and you're not alone. Let's get your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 back in full working order — you’ve already done so much of the hard work.

From what you've described, the printer:

  • Prints test pages and communicates with HP Ink servers,
  • But won’t print from your computer, despite driver reinstallations and assistance.

This points to a likely communication breakdown between Windows and the local print system, not the printer hardware or your HP Ink account.

Step 1: Fully Remove Old Printer Setup

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  2. Right-click any OfficeJet 8710 entries and choose Remove device
(Repeat until all 8710s are removed)
  3. Press Win + R, type: printui /s /t2, then hit Enter
→ This opens the Print Server Properties
  4. In the list, find HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, click Remove Driver and Driver Package

🧼 This ensures the corrupted driver and queue are fully removed.

Step 2: Stop and Reset the Windows Print Spooler

  1. Press Win + S, type: services.msc, open it
  2. Scroll to Print Spooler
  3. Right-click > Stop
  4. Then go to: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

(You may need admin permission)

  1. Delete everything in that folder

Then go back to Services, right-click Print Spooler, and click Start again.

Step 3: Download and Install the HP Full Software

  1. Visit:🔗 HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
  2. Download: HP Easy Start or Full Feature Software and Drivers
  3. Run the setup and choose “USB” or “Network” connection, whichever you use
  4. Do NOT let HP Smart auto-detect and auto-configure — choose custom setup if available

If you’re using Wi-Fi, ensure your printer and PC are on the same 2.4 GHz network (8710 doesn't support 5 GHz).

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
