I use MacBook Pro. Recently received a message from Apple that says in the near future my HP Inc extension will be incompatible with a OS upgrade and that I should get rid of HP Inc extension - or words to that effect. I only have the one HP printer (6055e). I'm confused as to what to do.

Hi @Mickey-K
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're receiving a warning from Apple regarding the HP Inc. extension, which is part of the software that helps your HP printer communicate with your MacBook Pro. This extension is typically installed as part of the HP driver package and is necessary for printing, scanning, and other printer functions on macOS.Check for HP Software Updates
- Update Your HP Printer Drivers: Before the new macOS update, it’s a good idea to check if HP has released updated drivers or software that will be compatible with the next macOS update.
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model (HP DeskJet 6055e).
- Download and install any latest drivers or software available for macOS.
- Alternatively, you can use the HP Smart app (available on the Mac App Store), which might not rely on the HP Inc. extension and will be regularly updated for compatibility.
2. Use the macOS Built-in Drivers
- macOS has built-in printer drivers for many HP printers. If the current HP software/extension is causing problems or will be incompatible after the update, you can try removing the HP Inc. extension and using macOS's built-in drivers instead.
- To check if your HP printer is supported by macOS's built-in drivers, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP printer and click on Options & Supplies.
- Go to the Driver tab and check if macOS offers a default driver for your HP 6055e printer.
- If it works well enough for your needs (basic printing, scanning), you might not need to worry about the HP Inc. extension at all.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
