HP Ink Tank Wireless 419

Hello,
I have an HP Ink Tank Wireless 410 printer that was previously used on another network and linked to an old HP Smart account.
I am now trying to set it up in a new office Wi-Fi network so multiple users can print from it, but the printer is completely locked and I cannot configure it.

Here is what happens:

  • The printer shows an IP address 192.168.223.1, but when I connect to it via browser (or HP Smart app), it asks for the EWS administrator password, which I forgot.

  • When trying to add the printer via HP Smart, I go through the setup steps up to selecting the Wi-Fi network, but again it requests the printer’s admin password, which I don’t know.

  • I have tried all known reset methods (Information + Wi-Fi button, Cancel + Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Reset, NVM Reset, etc.) but the printer does not enter setup mode and the lock remains.

  • I can access the printer via Wi-Fi Direct, but this is not a long-term solution. I don’t want every office user to manually connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network.

  • I need the printer to be connected to the office network (via Wi-Fi or Ethernet) so that everyone can print as normal.

  • The configuration pages show IP 0.0.0.0, status “offline” or “disconnected”, even though Wi-Fi Direct works.

My questions:

  1. Is there any way to perform a full Factory Reset or Forced NVM Reset to remove the admin password and return the printer to setup mode?

  2. Is there any hardware method (internal jumper, battery removal, etc.) to clear this lock?

  3. If not, can HP service or technical support remove this lock for me?

I have photos, configuration pages, status prints, and can provide any extra information if needed.
Please help, as the printer is completely unusable in this state.

Thank you!

Hi @Stukyyy

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Ink Tank Wireless 410 is stuck in a locked state, preventing you from resetting it or connecting it to a new network. Since you've already tried multiple reset methods, here are some additional steps that might help:

1. Factory Reset via Button Combination

Try this hard reset method:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button at the same time.
  • While holding the buttons, turn on the printer.
  • Continue holding the buttons until all the lights blink, indicating a successful reset.

2. Reset via HP Smart App

If the button reset doesn’t work, try resetting through HP Smart:

  • Download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
  • Connect the printer via USB cable or Wi-Fi Direct.
  • Open HP Smart, click on your printer, and go to Advanced Settings.
  • Scroll down to Restore Defaults and select Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.

3. Reset Network Settings via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If you can access the printer’s IP address, try resetting the network settings:

  • Open a browser and enter the printer’s IP (192.168.223.1).
  • Navigate to Settings > Restore Defaults > Restore Network Settings.
  • Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to disconnect from Wi-Fi.

Let me know if you need help with any of these steps! 😊

Hi HP Support Team,

Thank you again for your help. I have followed all your suggestions, but unfortunately, the issue remains.

Here is the situation:

I have an HP Ink Tank Wireless 419 printer.
I previously changed the EWS administrator password but I have forgotten it and I cannot recover it.

I tried:

  • Wireless + Cancel + Power button reset

  • Wi-Fi Direct reset

  • Reset via HP Smart

  • All button combinations and reset methods from the support pages

Nothing worked to clear the EWS admin password.

Now:

  • I connected the printer via USB cable to my computer.

  • I can open HP Smart and access Advanced Settings, but as soon as I try to restore network defaults, it redirects me to the Embedded Web Server (EWS) and again asks for the admin password which I cannot remember.

  • The original Wi-Fi network is no longer available (I moved to a new office with a different router), so I cannot connect the printer to any network or access it externally.

I can only use Wi-Fi Direct or USB, which is not a long-term solution for multiple users in the office.

I have a purchase contract (bill of sale) to prove ownership of the printer and I am ready to provide it if needed.

My question:
👉 Is there any method to reset or clear the EWS administrator password (hardware jumper, internal reset, service software, etc.) to return the printer to setup mode?

Please advise what my options are.

Thank you very much for your time and support!
