Any updates, or any work around to download the drivers required for a Laserjet wireless printer on to a Microsoft Surface Pro X laptop (ARM based)?

@Cfrye77, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC(ARM)

Click here to download and know more about the app.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi, I downloaded the HP Smart App before I posted this question.  Currently, when I open that up, it says the printer is ready.  When I choose print documents, it says that I have to download a driver for it.  After saying "Yes" when Windows asked me if I allow the device to make changes on my computer (for about 5 prompts), it came up with an "installation failed" and presented me with steps to manually install it.

Prior to posting this message, I tried to manually install it, which it seemed as if that was successful, "NPIC740EF HP Laserjet MFP M227fdw", however the device says "unavailable".

Not successful.

Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Remove the existing printer entry > click on Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing.

Let me know how it goes.

tried following the steps.  Tried downloading the driver through the disk (kept pointing me to the A:, instead of the D:, the autorun file is just a txt file).

Didn't work at all.

The steps I have provided do not involve downloading drivers. However, if you have tried the steps and the issue persists, I think this issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I had a remote session with a tech for 2 hours tonight.  He basically said that my system won't let any drivers to be downloaded.

That's unfortunate. We have tried all the possible ways to install the printer driver.

Keep us posted for any other assistance.

I'm having the same problem as Cfrye77. I have a new Surface Pro X, and am trying to print to a LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276bw. If anyone has been successful, please tell us how you solved the problem. One thing to note:  Using HP Smart, I can print the Demo Page, the Wireless Test Report, Diagnostic Information, and Printer Status Report. However, I have not been able to print from any other apps. I think HP should provide a solution.

I have a little more information on the issue.  Apparently, since the Microsoft Surface Pro X was meant to have the adaptability to connect to the phone system, if no wifi is available, it has a qualcomm chip (instead of the typical intel chip).  The micorosoft surface pro x is the only surface pro that has this particular chip.  I'm assuming that HP might come up with a printer driver in the future for this.  However, unfortunately, I ended up purchasing an all-in-one desktop computer because I needed a printer.  I still have the surface pro x.  Hope this helps.
