OS 14.6.1

I love my Laser Jet Pro MFP (M28-M31 series) and just bought my second Toner Cartridge. Yes, it's old (2001 I think) but works perfectly, or it did, until I got a new T-Mobile Tower. All my other devices connected immediately, except the printer. Using HP Smart, it appears my printer has "expired" and I cannot locate the drivers (with serial or product numbers) in HP to upload.  I have tried everything, and was told it could be fixed for $200, along with the suggestion "just buy a new printer." I am so frustrated with HPs 'throw-away' culture. I would be in heaven if I could upload compatible drivers and use it again. Can anyone help?

Hi @AsF4122,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Driver Compatibility:

  • Ensure you have the correct and most recent drivers for your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29W. You can find the drivers on the HP website: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29W Drivers

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. Firmware updates often resolve connectivity issues. You can check for firmware updates on the same HP drivers page.

Network Settings:

  • Reset the network settings on your printer:
    • Go to the printer’s control panel.
    • Navigate to 'Settings' > 'Network Settings' > 'Restore Network Defaults'.
  • Reconnect the printer to your new T-Mobile Tower:
    • Use the printer’s Wi-Fi setup to connect to the new network.
    • Ensure you use the correct Wi-Fi credentials.

Reinstall HP Smart App:

  • Sometimes reinstalling the HP Smart App can help to resolve issues:
    • Uninstall the HP Smart App from your computer or mobile device.
    • Download and install the latest version of the HP Smart App: HP Smart App

Use IP Address Connection:

  • If the standard connection method fails, try connecting the printer using its IP address:
    • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to find its IP address.
    • Open a web browser, and type the printer's IP address to access its Embedded Web Server (EWS).
    • Check the network settings and ensure the printer has a correct IP address for your network.

Manual Driver Installation:

  • If automatic driver detection is failing, manually install the driver:
    • Download the printer driver from the HP website.
    • Go to your computer’s 'Device Manager', find your printer under 'Printers', right-click and select 'Update driver'.
    • Choose 'Browse my computer for drivers' and navigate to where you downloaded the driver.

I hope this helps.
