Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone in this community can help me out.
I have an HP LaserJet 1018 printer and a MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey. I'm trying to get the printer set up and working with my Mac, but I'm having some trouble finding the right drivers or a reliable solution.
Has anyone successfully installed and used an HP LaserJet 1018 with macOS Monterey? If so, could you please share how you did it or offer any tips or advice? I'd really appreciate any guidance you can provide to help me get this printer operational again.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Daquinonesp
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Unfortunately, the HP LaserJet 1018 does not have native drivers that are directly compatible with macOS Monterey, as this printer model is older. Nevertheless, here are some solutions and tips that you can try to get your printer working with your MacBook Pro:
Use Alternative Printer Drivers:
- Gutenprint: Gutenprint is a free set of printer drivers that might support the HP LaserJet 1018. You can download and install Gutenprint from SourceForge.
- After installation, add your printer through 'System Preferences' > 'Printers & Scanners'. Select Gutenprint drivers if available for your model.
Use a Windows PC for Printer Sharing:
- If you have access to a Windows PC that can use the printer, you might be able to share the printer over the network. Your Mac can then print through this shared printer using standard network printing protocols.
Third-Party Print Solutions:
- Consider using a third-party print solution such as Printopia or HandyPrint, which enables network printing with non-compatible printers from macOS devices.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- While not likely to introduce Mac compatibility, ensuring your printer's firmware is up to date can sometimes resolve technical issues.
Generic PCL Drivers:
- Some users have success configuring older HP printers with macOS using generic PCL (Printer Command Language) drivers included with the Mac. Add the printer via 'Printers & Scanners' and choose 'Generic PCL Printer' from the list if available.
You’re doing all the right things—and we’ll get that classic LaserJet humming again! 💪😊
