HP LaserJet 9040
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have my HP LaserJet 9040 set up as a network printer. I have used it with numerous PCs running all versions of Windows through Windows 7.

When I tried installing it automatically under Windows 10, the printer driver is not found. I assume it does not exist, so I used the generic "Microsoft PCL 6 class driver" instead. But this does not understand the printer hardware, so I can't enable duplex printing.

When I tried installing it using the "HP Smart app" under Windows 10, but the printer is not located properly. I supplied the correct IP address (10.0.0.17), and that did not work either.

I hope there is a way to get full functionality of the HP 9040 under Windows 10 ... or do I need to set up a "dummy PC" with Windows 7 (or Linux) and simply share the printer????

You have the universal print driver available for download from hp.com

Also, you need to check if the duplex is set to installed under the printer settings
