LaserJet CM1415

I have a Macbook Pro running Big Sur and am attempting to connect a LaserJet CM1415 to it for printing, scanning, etc.  Using a USB cable, I could add the printer as a "generic postscript printer" but the HP  app could never discover it, even if I changed to a shorter USB cable (under 3m).  I shifted to wi-fi and I can add the printer, print from it, but I still cannot scan.  The error from the software is that it is unable to find the printer.  In addition, the computer does not appear on the printer's info screen.

I have tried resetting the print function as recommended in the support database.

How do I get this printer/scanner connected to my Mac so I can use all of its functionality?  Happy to fill in any info needed to troubleshoot this issue.

At the end of the day, wish I could just download the Mac drivers for this and install them by hand, but HP seems to insist on the Easy Start app, which then forces me to HP Smart.  Which hasn't been smart enough to resolve my issue.  Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried using HP Easy Start? Though your OS version is not listed, you may be able to get that to run. As devices reach on of support life it does get more difficult to keep using them.

Yes, @repairatrooper, I have.  Easy Start goes through a couple of steps and then it takes me straight into HP Smart.  There doesn't seem to be a way to bypass HP Smart when Easy Start invokes it.
