HP LaserJet MFP M631

Hello,

We got an issue where we have a printer HP LaserJet MFP M631 which has not been used for a while. I tried to set it up but unfortunately everything locked behind administrator password which we do not have. Previous admin did not leave us any information on what the password might be and there is no contact with him anymore thus the topic.

Would you know a way of restarting this printer to factory settings without the password?

I managed to find out the current firmware version of the printer is JSI24050147.

Thank You!

Hi @JaroSR,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Unfortunately, performing a factory reset on an HP LaserJet MFP M631 without the admin password can be challenging. However, you can try the following steps.

  • Perform a Cold Reset: A cold reset might help in some cases. To do this, turn off the printer, then turn it back on while holding down the back arrow button and the cancel button simultaneously until the Permanent Storage Initialization message appears. This might reset the printer to its factory settings.
  • Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS): Access the Embedded Web Server of the printer through a web browser. You can usually do this by entering the printer's IP address into the address bar. Once logged in (if possible without the admin password), navigate to the Settings or Administration section and look for a factory reset option.
  • Firmware Update: Since you have access to the firmware version, you might also consider updating the firmware. Sometimes, firmware updates can reset certain settings to default. However, this method is not guaranteed to reset the admin password.

Remember, performing a factory reset will erase all settings, including network configurations and custom settings. Make sure to document any necessary information before proceeding.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
