Hello!
I am experiencing an issue with more than a dozen HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdn printers. As you can imagine, the issue is not limited to a single computer. It occurs on every computer connected to a printer of this model. Everything had been working perfectly via USB, and then suddenly stopped working.
When we try to install a printer via USB, the installer downloaded from your website takes a very long time to load and eventually displays the following error:
“The installation operation took too long to complete. This fatal error prevents the product from being used. Restart the computer and run the installer again. If the problem persists, try to find a solution on the product support website.”
We have checked the USB ports on all the affected computers, and they are working properly. We have tried both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, but the result is the same. The USB cables are new and have also been tested and confirmed to be working.
Windows 11 Device Manager detects and correctly identifies the printer, but the driver cannot be installed.
As system administrators, we have tried various troubleshooting methods—both those we already knew and those we found online—but none of them resolved the issue.
The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdn printers connect over the network without any problems. The network driver installs quickly and reliably.
I have therefore concluded that there may be a conflict between the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdn USB driver and Windows 11. Our organization also has desktop computers and all-in-one PCs running Windows 10, and these same printers work via USB on those computers without any issues.
Could you please investigate this apparent compatibility issue between the USB driver and Windows 11 and advise us on a solution?

Hi @IllyaMir,
For installing your printer, please try the next steps:
1. Please install the next drivers for your printer on Windows computer:
2. Once installed then restart your Windows computer.
3. Then go to Configuration > Printers > Add Printer on Windows.
* Click YES to say thank you,
* Click Accepted as Solution when question is answered.

Hello, ferRX!
It doesn’t work. For your program to detect the printer, the driver needs to be installed, but the driver won’t install over USB. I tried installing the network driver and reassigning the port after connecting the printer via USB. When I try to print a test page, Windows 11 displays the following error: “HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdn printer error. Printing error.”
I tried different configurations of your file, but the result is the same.

Hi @IllyaMir
Thanks for the update 😇, maybe this could be related to last Windows update that changed Printers configuration.
1. Check in Printers options for Printer preferences and move to OFF the next options:
- Default install printers using Windows Ready Print - OFF
- Let Windows manage my default printer - OFF
2. Then Restart your computer.
3. Try again to Add your printer and check if now is detected by USB cable connection.
* Click YES to say thank you,
* Click Accepted as Solution when question is answered.
Best regards,
ferRX.
