Just unboxed my HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw. Tried to turn it on. It doesn't turn on. I checked power cord connection. I checked outlet. I checked several times. It just doesn't turn on.

Hi @M5872,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When dealing with a new printer like the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw that won't power on right out of the box, it's crucial to go through a systematic troubleshooting process to identify and possibly resolve the issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide you can follow:

Verify the Power Source:

  • Double-check that the power outlet you're using is functioning properly by plugging in another device that you know works.
  • If you're using a power strip or surge protector, try plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet to eliminate any issues with the power strip or surge protector.

Inspect the Power Cord:

  • Ensure that the power cord is firmly connected to both the printer and the power outlet. Sometimes, the connections can look okay at a glance but might not be fully engaged.
  • If possible, try using a different power cord that is compatible with your printer to rule out a faulty power cord.

Check for any Physical Damage:

  • Though rare, it's possible the printer or its power supply unit could have been damaged during shipping. Look for any visible signs of damage on the printer and the power cord.

Internal Packing Material:

  • Make sure all internal packing materials have been removed. Some printers have protective packing materials inside that must be removed before turning the printer on.

Reset the Printer:

  • Although your printer hasn't turned on yet, a reset can sometimes help. Unplug the printer, wait about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. This can sometimes reset any residual electronic charges and allow the printer to function.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
