HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I work for a public school system.  We recently upgraded our fleet of laptops to MacBook Air (M1, 2020s).  We have quite a few HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn printers in our buildings and they will not print on Mac OS 15.4.1 Sequoia.  Are you going to send out an updated driver for the P1606dns????

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

 

Use AirPrint (Driverless Printing)

The HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn supports AirPrint, Apple's built-in printing protocol. To utilize AirPrint:

Ensure both your Mac and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Add the printer using AirPrint:

Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

Click the "+" button to add a printer.

Select your printer from the list.

In the "Use" dropdown, choose "AirPrint".

Click Add.

This method allows basic printing functionality without the need for additional drivers.

 

Use HP Easy Start Utility

HP Easy Start is a utility that can help install the necessary drivers for supported printers.

Download and install HP Easy Start.

Launch the application and follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer.

 

Reset the Printing System:

Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select "Reset printing system".

Confirm the reset and re-add your printer.

 

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
