I have an HP Laserjet 6L printer that I bought in 1998.  How do I connect it to a computer?

Hello,

Try the following solution:

  1. Download then extract this driver (example with WinRAR or 7Zip)
  2. On the keyboard, press the Windows logo key and the R key simultaneously. The Run window opens.
  3. Type control printers, then press Enter key. The Devices and Printers window opens.
  4. Click Add a Printer. The Add Printer window opens.
  5. Click The printer you want is not listed.
  6. Select Add a local or network printer with manual settings and click Next.
  7. Click Use Existing Port.
  8. Click on the Use Existing Port drop-down list and select DOT4_001 or USB001 and click Next.
  9. Click on Provided Disk... or Have Disk..., then click Browse..., and then go to C:\Users\(your username)\Downloads\4188_bacd1413e93b4a6362d9a2ca653c869f1c02f6f7 twice click on prnhp001.Inf.
  10. Under Printers, in the Install Printer Driver window, select HP LaserJet 6L and then click Next.
  11. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  12. Try to print.

Physical connection will require either a USB to parallel adapter or a parallel ethernet print server. The print server is the better choice as way less trouble connecting. Or on the remote chance your computer has a parallel port you would simply need a parallel IEEE cable.
