I have the above mentioned printer and I am unfortunately not able to disable duplex printing as stanard. I have read in articles that on MacOS, it is not possible in printer setting but via accessing the printer via Webservice. I have done this but on the Webservice, I see Duplex as disabled.

Is there any oother way to disable duplex printing as standard?

Hi @Elitekasperle,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet M235sdw is printing duplex by default on macOS, and you’re unable to disable it as the standard setting. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check macOS Print Presets

On macOS, the system often overrides printer defaults with “Last Used Settings.”

When you open the print dialog, set Two‑Sided = Off, then click Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset.

Name it something like “Single‑Sided” and select it as your default preset.

Verify Printer Driver Type

Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

Select your HP LaserJet, then check if it’s using “AirPrint” or “Secure AirPrint.”

AirPrint drivers sometimes force duplex as default. Installing HP’s full driver package can restore control.

Check CUPS Web Interface (Advanced)

Open Safari and go to http://localhost:631.

Enable the CUPS interface if prompted.

Select your printer, go to Administration > Set Default Options, and confirm duplex is set to “Off.”

This overrides macOS defaults at the print system level.

Confirm Webservice Settings

You mentioned duplex shows disabled in the printer’s Embedded Web Server.

That’s correct, but macOS may still apply duplex unless overridden by presets or CUPS.

Test with Different Applications

Try printing from TextEdit or Preview with duplex disabled.

If single‑sided works there, the issue is application‑specific (e.g., Word or Chrome may force duplex).

Firmware and Driver Updates

Use HP Easy Admin or HP Easy Start to check for the latest drivers and firmware.

Updates often fix mismatches between macOS and printer defaults.

I hope this helps.
