Hi @oneceporuk,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I’m sorry you’re running into this. I know it’s confusing when the printer shows up as “HP rbp-load” and the normal HP firmware tools don’t recognize it. I’ll explain this as HP, clearly and carefully, so you know exactly what’s going on and what can (and cannot) be done.
1) Get the correct firmware package (HP official)
- HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe – Software & Firmware (enter your OS, then open the Firmware section): HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe Printer | HP® Support
Tip: The M234dwe is part of the M232e/M237e family; that’s why the support page title shows that series name. It’s the right page for the M234dwe.
2) Try a normal firmware update first (if the printer still reaches “Ready”)
If your printer can boot to Ready (even briefly), use one of these supported methods:
- HP Printer Update utility from the firmware package (Windows/macOS).
- Embedded Web Server (EWS): open the printer’s IP in a browser → Firmware Update.
(General HP steps for single‑printer updates using USB/EWS.)
If the device only enumerates as HP rbx‑load and never becomes Ready, continue with recovery below.
3) Recovery when the PC shows “HP rbx‑load”
“rbx‑load” indicates the bootloader, not the normal print personality. In this state, generic tools and some firmware packages will not list your printer model (exactly what you’re seeing). Community cases confirm that after a failed update, Windows will show HP‑rbx‑load / USB Printing Support instead of the real model.
A. Power/cable sanity reset (quick)
- Remove the USB and power.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug power direct to the wall; avoid surge strips.
- Use a short, known‑good USB‑A↔B cable straight to the PC (no hubs).
- Try the firmware package again.
(Some devices exit RBX after a clean cold start and enumerate normally.)
B. Use a different computer & port
USB drivers can get “stuck” after a failed flash. Try a second PC (Windows is best for recovery tools) on a rear motherboard USB port. Community reports show that this sometimes lets the updater detect the device again.
C. If the printer briefly comes Ready, update immediately
If you ever see it become Ready (front panel stable, discoverable as its real name), run the HP Printer Update tool or EWS update right then. This is the most reliable way to complete a half‑finished update.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
