HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good Day Everyone,

I have inherited an IT site with a deployed HP Laserjet Pro MFP M225dw - we need to move this MFP to another office location and as such want to perform a factory reset.  Sadly, my predecessor did not maintain records and we cannot find the administrator credentials for this machine and as such need to perform some type of hard reset.

I have reviewed the posts here and it appears that this information is kept confidential and must be relayed by private message.

Please reach out.

Hi @SteveIT,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Performing a factory reset on an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw without the administrator credentials can be challenging, but you can try the following steps. Keep in mind that these steps might not work on all devices or may vary slightly depending on the firmware version.

Power off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect all cables.

Restore Default Settings:

  • Locate the control panel on the front of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, and as soon as it starts, touch and hold the lower-left corner of the control panel.
  • Continue holding until Permanent Storage Init is displayed, then release. The printer should now restore factory defaults.

Network Settings Reset:

  • If you want to reset network settings as well, you can navigate to the network settings and perform a reset.
  • On the control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.

Cold Reset (Optional):

  • Some HP printers have a "Cold Reset" option. To perform a Cold Reset, turn off the printer, press and hold the "Go" button, and turn the printer back on while still holding the button. Release the button when the Attention light turns on steady.

Web Interface Reset (Optional):

  • If you know the IP address of the printer, you can try accessing the web interface and resetting it from there.
  • Open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address.
  • Navigate to the settings or configuration section and look for an option to restore factory defaults.

Remember that performing a factory reset will erase all configured settings, including network settings, and revert the printer to its default state. After the reset, you will need to set it up again, including reconnecting it to the network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
