I am a computer technician and I've spent days trying to fix this issue for a customer.
If I don't find a solution within the next 24 hours I will simply advise the client to buy a Brother printer AND will never again recommand HP printers to any of my clients! I think that HP has lived way too long on their old reputation and their software/drivers is now the worst ever made. It serves more as a spying software to let HP know if the user buys original HP consummables or not ... which is an illegal practice in Canada.
If anyone can help me find the solution it would be greatly appreciated!
Equipment:
Computer: Lenovo Ideacentre 7745 with Win10 (Version 10.0.19045 - Build 19045) - All latest windows updates done.
Printer: HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28W
Issue:
- When that printer is connected to that computer (USB or Wi-Fi) the print command flashes through the print spooler for 1 second and dissapears. Nothing happens on the printer. If I send a print test request (internal test) using the HP Print and Scan Doctor (HP PSDC) app nothing happens.
- ALL diagnosis test using PSDC, HP Smart or Windows troubleshooter says that nothing is wrong with the printer. The printer shows as connected/online/ready status.
- The scanner part works perfectly. I can scan from that computer or I can scan AND PRINT the scan by using the button on the printer panel (Scan to print directly).
- I can connect (USB or Wi-Fi) another printer (My Brother HL-L2370DW) to that computer and it will print fine (Spooler shows the print command until printing is finished)
- I can connect that printer (USB or Wi-Fi) to another computer and it prints fine.
What was done already: (so please don't ask me to do those again unless it's a 100% sure fix.)
- SFC Scan as admin in CMD prompt + Full repair-install of Windows
- Completely removed any traces of HP software (even the registry entries) and reinstalled proper drivers. This was tried many times with Basic driver only and Full driver/software packages.
- Changed the USB cable for a known good one. Scanner works but no printing.
- Updated the printer firmware with latest HP versions.
- Created a brand new local user in Windows and re-did all testing = same behavior.
The only thing left for me to try is a full Windows install from scratch which I'd rather not do since it implies having to reinstall ALL softwares/accounts/backup documents, etc ...
