Microsoft Windows 11

Have HP M1212 nf mulit function laser jet printer.  Has worked beautifully for years now including when Fax was still being used.  My Desktop computer recently had to get fixed.  Needed new Harddrive and subsequently new Windows 11 install.  Had to download and reinstall drivers for HP M1212 nf.  That worked fine.  Printer is printing and working fine.  My problem is in the scan mode.  When I click on Scan document the window that comes up on my computer screen is the familiar HP Scan window, however all the text is in Chinese?  The language setting on the Printer is definitely English.  When I click on Send Fax that HP Window on my computer screen is in English.  Of course I never use Fax anymore but am scanning documents all the time.  Anyone have some suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks kindly  Klaus.

Hi @Klaus8888,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the HP Scan software on your Windows 11 PC is displaying text in Chinese, even though the printer and other functions are in English. This issue is likely related to the language settings of the HP scanning software or a problem with the software installation. Here’s how you can resolve the problem:

1. Check HP Scan Software Language Settings:

  • Launch the HP Scan application on your computer.
  • Look for a “Settings” or “Preferences” option within the HP Scan software. This is often found in the menu or toolbar.
  • In the settings menu, locate the language option and set it to English. Save any changes and restart the HP Scan software.

2. Reinstall HP Scan Software

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
  • Find the HP Scan software in the list and select Uninstall.
  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your HP M1212nf model.
  • Download and install the latest version of the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers for Windows 11.
  • Follow the installation instructions provided. During the installation, select the appropriate language if prompted.

3. Check Windows Language Settings

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region.
  • Ensure that your preferred language (English) is set as the display language.
  • If English is not installed or set as the default, install it from the “Add a language” option.

4. Check Regional Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Clock and Region > Region.
  • Ensure that the “Format” and “Administrative” tabs are set to English (United States) or your preferred English region.
  • Under the “Administrative” tab, click on “Change system locale” and set it to English (United States). Restart your computer if prompted.

5. Check for Software Updates

  • After reinstalling, make sure to check for any updates to the HP Scan software. Updates can sometimes fix language and other issues.
  • Ensure your Windows 11 system is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and checking for updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel, thanks for the detailed information.  I could not find any settings or menus with the HP M1212 nf application.  I checked my language settings on my Desktop and everything appeared to be in English.  I checked to makesure that Windows 11 was up to date.  I uninstalled the HP M1212 nf application and then did a new download from the HP Support site.   Started the reinstall and upon completion I still had the same problem of Chinese Language on the Scan Documents Page on my Desktop.  I went into my Desktop Settings to double check Language settings.  Once again it was in English settings.  Then perchance I checked Administrative Language Settings at the bottom of the page.  The window that came up showed that the Language for Non Unicode Programs was Chinese?  I changed this to English and now thankfully everything is working as it should.  Bit Frustrating and confusing for someone like me so thanks very much again for detailed suggestions.   Klaus
