HP LaserJet MFP M234d Printer

Hi,

I’m opening a new thread since my previous one was closed, but the problem remains unresolved.

I own an HP MFP M234D (8J9K4F). According to the official HP website (https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/ish_5098782-5098911-16) and even the product box itself, the whole HP LaserJet MFP 232–237 series supports HP Smart features, including Print Anywhere.

On the box there’s even a picture of a mobile phone simulating wireless printing and managing, which clearly suggests remote/mobile use is supported.

However, as you confirmed in the previous thread, my printer does not offer Web Services at all, meaning Print Anywhere is impossible.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Issue-with-HP-MFP-M234D-8J9K4F-HP-Smart...

The answer I received was basically that “this is a USB-only device and not supported.” If that’s the case, why does HP still list the entire series (232–237) as Print Anywhere–compatible, and why is the product packaging showing mobile printing if the feature is not available on this model?

This feels misleading and confusing for customers.

To make matters worse, after the most recent reinstall on Windows 11, the M234D is no longer detected properly at all in HP Smart App and only in offline driver installer.

So my questions are:

  1. Why does HP still claim Print Anywhere is supported for “all MFP 232–237 series” when clearly this model (M234D) is excluded?

  2. Why does the product packaging show a mobile phone with simulated wireless printing if this is not possible? Isn’t this misleading advertising?

I would appreciate clear answers, because right now it feels like customers are being misled regarding the features of this printer.

Thank you.

One of the main reasons I purchased the HP MFP M234D (8J9K4F) was the information shown on the product box and HP’s own website. The box clearly displays a mobile phone printing to the device, and your support article states that all models in the HP LaserJet MFP 232–237 series support remote printing (Print Anywhere).

Because of this, I expected that I would be able to print remotely from my phone – for example, while I am at work, sending a print job home where the printer is connected to my PC. That’s the functionality I was specifically looking for when choosing this printer.

Now I’ve been told that the M234D does not support Print Anywhere because it’s USB-only. But if that’s the case:

  • Why does HP still advertise that all 232–237 models support Print Anywhere?

  • Why does the packaging show mobile printing if this feature doesn’t actually exist on this model?

This is misleading. I honestly feel cheated, and I’m sure many other M234D owners feel the same. What makes this worse is that other USB printers (including models I’ve used from Epson, and even some HP devices) do allow remote printing through a connected PC – so this is not an impossible feature. Right now I can print only from PC connected via USB to my printer.

So again:

  1. Why is HP still advertising Print Anywhere support for the entire series when this model clearly does not support it?

  2. Why is the packaging showing mobile/remote printing if it is not available?

  3. When will HP correct this misleading advertising and properly inform customers?

  4. How do I fix the issue where the printer is not recognized in HP Smart on Windows 11?

I chose this printer based on the advertised features, and right now I feel misled. I would appreciate a clear and honest explanation from HP.

Thank you.

Hi @A89,

Thank you for sharing the screenshots and the image of your printer box. I completely understand why this seems confusing, and I appreciate you taking the time to provide this detail.

Here’s some clarification:

1. Print Anywhere Eligibility

The HP M232–M237 series as a whole includes models that support Print Anywhere.

However, the M234D model is USB-only and does not include the networking features (Web Services/Wi-Fi) required for cloud-based Print Anywhere.

Other models in the series with Wi-Fi do support HP Smart mobile printing and remote cloud printing.

2. Packaging Illustration

The image of a mobile phone on the packaging is meant to indicate that some models in this series are compatible with HP Smart features for mobile and cloud printing.

We understand this can be misleading for USB-only models like the M234D, and your feedback is valuable in helping HP improve clarity for customers.

3. Current Setup

Your M234D can still be fully managed and used via HP Smart on a PC connected through USB.

Unfortunately, remote mobile printing via Print Anywhere is not supported on this specific model.

Next Steps

If remote printing is essential, we can help recommend HP models that fully support Print Anywhere and mobile printing.

For local USB printing, you can continue using your M234D with HP Smart on your PC, or directly via Windows’ Printers & Scanners settings.

We understand this isn’t the experience you expected, and we sincerely appreciate your patience. HP is continually reviewing feedback to make product information as clear as possible.

Warm regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
