Welcome to HP forums.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install the printer driver.

Click here to download the driver.

Once you install the printer, change the bellow settings to print in color.

  1. Open Devices and Printers by clicking the Start button, and then, on the Start menu, clicking Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click the printer that you want to use, and then click Printing preferences.
  3. Make your choices, and then click OK.
  4. Under option Print color select color, then the OK button.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello, thank you for the answer and sorry for my English.

I did everything you told me to do, remove the printer and then to clear the drivers.

After I have reinstalled the printer with the dowloaded driver from HP, the situation was exactly the same as before.

I have tried to install a new printer from windows with Windows 10 drivers and with that I can see the color options in the print preferences.

Then I have installed the program HP SMART where I can manage the printer with all the other functions such as scan a document or control the levels of the cartridges, but with this program i cannot modify the printing preferences and i can only print a pdf document. (No Word or Excell).

I have decided then to keep the two printers and to use the one I’ve installed with

Windows drivers HP OFFICEJET 4650 series that can print everything with color or black & white !!

and use the second printer installed with HP drivers HP OFFICEJET 4650 series (Rete) to use it with HP SMART to use all the other functions.

I’ll wait for a new release of HP drivers updated with WINDOWS 10 that will fix this issue.

Thank you.

When will HP be providing a real solution to this problem?  The only way folks have been able to activate the option to rpint in color is by hard-wiring to the printer.  That's not a solution HP!  You need to issue a fix, or is it time to get an Epson or Brother and the 4650 to hit a landfill?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Good afternoon.

I have tryed to do everything is written in your kind mail but the problem is still there.

With the printer HP Officejet 4650 and  (Windows 10  - 64 bits), i can only print in black/white.

I still have no choice to change from black/white to color.

I really don't understand, i have removed everythig concerning the printer, but when i reinstall it the situation is exactly the same.

With a new computer with the last operating system (WINDOWS 10) and a HP OFFICEJET 4650, if i have to print a color document i need to send it by mail to my Smartphone and then print it from there.

I'm very upset for this problem and after months i could'nt find a solution.

Have a nice day.
