I received a request to update my HP Printer.  Is it safe to accept HP,OMEN.Overlay, overlayHelper to update? Thanks. Pam1473.

Hi @Pam1473

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for checking before accepting the update—that’s a smart move. The HP.OMEN.Overlay.OverlayHelper component is part of the OMEN Gaming Hub software, which provides performance monitoring and overlay features for HP OMEN devices.

If your printer update request includes this component, it’s likely bundled with other HP software or utilities installed on your system.

This overlay tool is generally safe and published by HP Inc., but it’s not essential for printing or general system use. If you don’t use OMEN Gaming Hub or its overlay features, you can choose to skip the update or uninstall the OMEN Gaming Hub entirely.

For more details, you can refer to HP’s explanation of this component on their support community page and overlay helper guide.

If you’re unsure why it appeared during a printer update, I can help you review your installed HP software or walk you through disabling it. Just let me know how you'd like to proceed.
