I have installed the HP Software and opened  the the program. It requests me to add the printer but when I check that box it says printer not found even though it is connected to USB. The windows control panel Devices and printers shows it is connected and working properly as and HP Office Jet 470

Hi @richardbetsey

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel to see your printer connected in Windows but not detected in the HP software. Thank you for already checking in Devices and Printers—that’s a very helpful step.

Let’s walk through a few focused checks to get your HP OfficeJet 250 properly recognized:

Confirm USB Connection

  • Disconnect the USB cable from both the printer and computer.
  • Reconnect it directly to a USB port on the computer (avoid hubs or docking stations).
  • Ensure the printer is powered on and in a ready state.

Remove Incorrect Device Entry

  • Since Windows is showing it as “HP OfficeJet 470,” remove that entry:
    • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right‑click the “HP OfficeJet 470” and select “Remove device.”
  • This clears any mis‑identification.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

Add Printer via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select “Add Printer.”
  • The OfficeJet 250 should appear once the correct driver is installed. If not, restart the computer and try again.

Windows Print Test

  • After reinstalling, go back to Devices and Printers.
  • Ensure the printer now shows correctly as “HP OfficeJet 250.”
  • Right‑click > Printer Properties > Print Test Page to confirm communication.

These steps should align the driver with the correct model and allow the HP software to detect it.
