Help!

Every time I try to print from Word or PDF or even the HP  app, I have some kind of issue. Using Word or Adobe PDF, my images come out in black and white only.

When I try and print from HP Smart, I receive a connection error 0x80040154. I have already done a reset on the machine and that did not fix my problem.

@tahutsell01, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

To assist you better, which device are you using to print?

Which version of OS is installed?

  • Have you tried printing emails or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
  • Try making a standalone copy in color and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello!

I have Windows 10 - 64 bit. I have tried printing from the browser, Word App and Adobe PDF. Also tried printing from HP Smart but the error message for a configuration malfunction prevented me from doing anything within there. If i print a test quality page, it does print color. Also, if I remove the device from the device manager and re-install it, I can print in color once, on the first document done. After that, it no longer prints in color. Also, the ability to change color printing or black and white printing does not come up as an option when managing settings for a job or over all on the device settings.
When I check the driver and try to install any updates, it persists that it is updated fully. Also the device in HP Smart and in Device Manager during a diagnostics test says

@tahutsell01

I understand you are not able to print in color from your Win 10 computer.

Follow below version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference. If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing in color.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
