HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer
macOS 15.0 Sequoia

MacBook Pro cannot connect to my printer.  The control panel on the printer is locked and I no longer have the user Id and password to unlock it.  I have an older MacBook Pro running macO/S Monterey vr. 12.7.6  and an iPhone 16 (iOS 18.6.2) that do connect to the printer and will print.  How do I unlock the printers display screen to rerun the wifi setup?  All of the computers, phone and printer are connected to the same wifi .

Hi @Dustoff157

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying out the situation so clearly—when the control panel on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e is locked, and you no longer have the user ID or password, it prevents you from accessing key functions like Wi-Fi setup or administrative changes.

Fortunately, there’s a reliable way to unlock it using the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS), which you can access from any device already connected to the printer.

How to Unlock the Control Panel on HP 9015e

Step 1: Find the Printer’s IP Address

Since your iPhone and older MacBook can still print, they’re on the same network.

  • On your iPhone:
    • Open the HP Smart app
    • Tap your printer > Printer Settings
    • Scroll to Network Information and note the IP address

Step 2: Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Open a browser on your MacBook or iPhone
  • Type the printer’s IP address into the address bar (e.g., http://192.168.1.105)
  • This opens the printer’s internal settings dashboard

Step 3: Unlock the Control Panel

  • Navigate to: Settings > Security > Administrator Settings
  • Uncheck the box labeled “Control Panel Lock”
  • Save changes

This will immediately unlock the printer’s touchscreen and allow you to rerun Wi-Fi setup or make other changes.

If You Can’t Access the EWS

If the IP address doesn’t work or the EWS is password-protected:

  • Perform a Network Reset from the printer (if accessible):
    • Tap Home > Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults
  • Or, use the HP Smart app to reconfigure Wi-Fi:
    • Tap Add Printer > Set Up a New Printer
    • Follow prompts to reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi

Let me know if you need help navigating the EWS or locating the IP address—I’ll walk you through it step by step. You're doing everything right, and we’ll get that control panel unlocked.
